For sixth graders: Here's the ending of the last Shadow Children book we were reading

I need to add to the blog the ending of the 7th book in Shadow Children series, Among the Free.

Last we read, Luke had run away from the old peoples' home, even though he heard people yelling for him to come back.. Turns out that it was the people, because the people that showed up were friends with food.  They all ended up at the population police headquarters.  At first there were kids that were interviewing everyone to see how they felt about being free.

Luke wouldn't talk.  Turns out that it was a trick put in place by Oscar.  They were tricking people so they could convince people that the third children were really the bad guys.  When the former news broadcaster showed up he started doing the interviewing and went on stage.  But then people had to be screened before going on stage.  They only wanted people who would say negative things about third children.  Luke ran to the barn to stay with Jenni.  He decided all he could do was get on stage but they wouldn't let him without being screened.  He finally got on his horse, Jenni, rode through the crowd, and jumped on the stage.  Then he was allowed to speak, as the people guarding knew it would look bad if they pulled him off.  He told the truth.

There was much talk and discussion.  But Oscar fled when he realized he had now lost control.  With the help of Mr. Talbot and others, the story ended with them working together to form a new, fair government.

I am so glad we read these books.
